Abdul Nasser’s Inspiring Path: Rising to IAS Without Passing UPSC

Abdul Nasser B., born in Thalassery, Kannur district of Kerala, has a life story marked by struggle and perseverance. His father passed away when Nasser was just 5 years old, leaving his mother to support the family as a domestic worker. Despite these hardships, Nasser and his siblings were raised in an orphanage, where they completed their schooling.

At just 10 years old, Nasser began taking on small jobs, such as cleaning and working in a hotel, to help support his family. He later pursued his undergraduate studies at a government college in Thalassery. Throughout his life, Nasser took on various jobs, from selling newspapers to giving tuition classes and working as a phone operator, all to assist his family financially.

The Path to Becoming an IAS Officer

Although Nasser was a dedicated and talented student, he was unable to pass the UPSC exam. However, he cleared a state government exam and began his career in 1994 as an employee in Kerala’s Health Department. Through hard work and a commitment to public service, Nasser steadily advanced in his career. By 2006, he had been promoted to the Kerala State Civil Service as a Deputy Collector. In 2015, he was recognized as the top Deputy Collector in Kerala, and by 2017, he was promoted to the esteemed position of an IAS officer.
