Woman Who Quit MBBS to Crack UPSC Secures AIR 9, Tops Interview but Chooses IFS
In 2020, Apala Mishra, a determined young woman from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, achieved the incredible feat of securing an All India Rank (AIR) 9 in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination. Apala, who comes from a family with a strong military background, chose to quit her MBBS studies to focus entirely on cracking the UPSC exam. Her father, a retired Colonel, and her mother, a professor at Delhi University, have always been her pillars of support.
Apala's preparation for the UPSC was rigorous, studying nearly eight hours a day. Her hard work paid off when she achieved a remarkable score of 215 out of 275 in the interview round, setting a new record for the highest score in the last five years.
While many expected her to become an IAS officer, Apala surprised everyone by choosing the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) instead. This decision underscores her passion for representing India on the global stage rather than serving in the administrative services.
