Kim Soo Hyun’s K-Drama ‘Knock Off’ Hits Pause Button Amid Legal Firestorm

The much-anticipated Disney+ K-drama ‘Knock Off’ has hit an unexpected pause. On April 23rd KST, industry sources confirmed that the production team has officially suspended filming indefinitely, following serious allegations involving lead actor Kim Soo Hyun and the late actress Kim Sae Ron.

This development comes after Disney+ had already postponed the show’s release, stating that it required “careful deliberation.”

Kim Soo Hyun Knock Off Controversy Sparks Industry-Wide Reaction

At the heart of the issue is the Kim Soo Hyun Knock Off controversy, which has brought widespread attention to the series. The actor is facing allegations of a past relationship with Kim Sae Ron when she was underage, as well as claims that he pressured her to repay debts from her DUI case using his family’s agency resources.

Kim Soo Hyun has denied all accusations. In a recent emotional press conference, he firmly stated his innocence and expressed his commitment to fight the claims legally. Despite his statements, public opinion remains divided, and online speculation continues to grow.

The drama ‘Knock Off’ had reportedly completed an 18-episode script and was in the final phase of filming. Production teams initially tried to continue, hoping the situation would stabilize. However, after weeks of uncertainty, the decision was made to stop everything.

Staff and cast were formally notified that no filming will resume for now, and many actors and crew members have since moved on to other projects.

Legal Battle Intensifies, Release Date Uncertain

While it is unlikely that ‘Knock Off’ will be canceled completely, its future now depends heavily on the outcome of Kim Soo Hyun’s legal case. The actor has filed a massive 12 billion KRW (around $8.4 million USD) lawsuit against individuals associated with the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute, which has been a major source of the controversy.

Until the case is resolved, the drama’s release remains on hold. Industry insiders believe that Disney+ will only move forward with the show if the actor is cleared and the situation cools down.

As of now, the Kim Soo Hyun Knock Off controversy continues to impact one of the most awaited K-dramas of the year.
