NewJeans Fires Back at ADOR Lawsuit: Shocking Details of Contract Termination Revealed

K-pop girl group NewJeans has made their stance clear regarding the ongoing lawsuit filed by their former agency, ADOR. After their announcement on November 29, 2024, that they were terminating their contracts due to breaches by ADOR, the group has now responded publicly to ADOR's lawsuit. This legal action, filed on December 3, 2024, seeks to confirm the validity of their exclusive contracts.

On December 3, ADOR filed a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the group's contracts. ADOR’s filing asserts that the contracts cannot be terminated unless the company recoups its investments. In response to this, NewJeans released a statement on December 6, 2024, explaining their side of the situation.

NewJeans' Statement on the Termination

In their statement, NewJeans members Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein expressed regret for the public conflict but clarified their reasons for terminating their contracts. The group explained that ADOR failed to uphold the terms of their contracts, including protecting the artists and addressing breaches of the agreement.

"Despite the profits we have already generated, ADOR and HYBE continued to interfere with our career in harmful ways," the group shared. "They allowed defamatory actions and false information to circulate, and even though attempts for reconciliation were made, the company continued with unethical practices."

The members of NewJeans emphasized that their trust in ADOR and HYBE had been irrevocably damaged due to repeated contract violations and failure to meet their responsibilities as their management company. They noted that according to the terms of their exclusive contracts, they had the right to terminate the agreement when the company failed to fulfill its obligations.

"Forced to work under these conditions for another five years would be unreasonable and inhumane," NewJeans said. "We gave ADOR a 14-day grace period to address the breaches, but they failed to act. Consequently, our contract termination took immediate effect on November 29, 2024."

Continued Challenges and a Path Forward

Despite their decision to end the contracts, NewJeans made it clear that they have remained dedicated to fulfilling their existing commitments. However, they revealed troubling details about the harassment their staff members have faced, including confiscation of equipment and intense investigations by ADOR and HYBE. These actions have deeply affected the group's management team, with some employees visibly distressed by the treatment.

"We witnessed our managers and performance directors in tears due to the pressure and harassment they have faced," NewJeans said. "This is not only a personal violation but a wider, unethical practice that extends beyond us."

While acknowledging the difficulty of the road ahead, NewJeans expressed hope for the future. They emphasized their desire to continue their musical careers in a healthy and supportive environment, free from the interference and defamation they have experienced. The group made it clear that they would remain united, no matter what challenges may arise from ADOR’s legal actions.

"We are determined to create a life where we can pursue our music with the love and support of our fans," they stated. "Despite the hurdles, we remain hopeful that the legal process will reveal the truth behind our decision and expose the contract violations committed by ADOR."
