Is Nora Fatehi the Next Katrina Kaif: Here’s What She Has to Say!
Is Nora Fatehi set to become the next Katrina Kaif? Discover Nora's thoughts on this comparison and her journey in Bollywood.
Nora Fatehi, widely recognized for her hit song Dilbar, recently opened up about the difficult journey she faced in the entertainment industry. In a candid conversation with Rajeev Masand at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Nora discussed the many challenges she encountered as a newcomer, including dealing with people who sought to take advantage of her vulnerable position. Her story highlights not only her resilience but also the harsh reality behind the glamour of Bollywood.
Nora revealed that in her early days, people often asked if she wanted to be “the next Katrina Kaif,” an expectation that weighed heavily on her. The repeated question, combined with constant rejection, took a toll on her mental health, eventually prompting her to seek therapy. "When you get a lot of rejection, which I got a lot, a lot of 'you are not good enough,' it starts affecting you deeply," Nora shared.
The constant feedback that she wasn’t “good enough” left her feeling inadequate and disheartened. Although she later developed a thicker skin, she admitted that this period was particularly tough and left her feeling uncertain about her place in the industry.
Learning to Stay Strong and Avoid Desperation
Through these difficult experiences, Nora learned a valuable lesson about self-worth and resilience. She realized that showing too much eagerness for roles could lead to exploitation by those looking to take advantage of aspiring actors. “I could never appear desperate for opportunities, as that is exactly what some people prey upon,” she explained.
To avoid these situations, Nora changed her approach. Instead of expressing an intense desire to act, she started saying things like, “I would love to, but if it doesn’t work out, I can always return home, finish university, and become a lawyer.” This mindset shift allowed her to regain control and not let others manipulate her dreams.
Nora also recounted the numerous “scary situations” she encountered in her initial years. As a Moroccan-Canadian newcomer to Mumbai, she met people who promised to help her connect with major production houses, but these encounters often put her in uncomfortable situations. Over time, she learned to navigate these challenges and deal with what she described as “weirdos.”
Looking back, Nora admits that she would have handled these situations differently if she had the wisdom she has now. At just 22, she felt overwhelmed by the new environment, unsure of whom to trust. However, each experience became a learning opportunity, shaping her into the strong, self-assured person she is today.
