From 'Aasai' to 'Thuppakki': Iconic Movies Rejected by Suriya - Everything You Need To Know
Kanguva will hit the screens on November 14, and fans want to see all of Suriya in the Tamil superstar's latest outing. Suriya has had an accomplished career in Tamil cinema, but his not-so-glamorous side also reveals that he rejected a few important films that went on to become classics of Tamil cinema. Here's a glimpse of some of the popular films that Suriya turned down and the reasons for rejecting them.
1. Magadheera
In one of the most recent pre-release events of Kanguva, he revealed that he had indeed not taken up an opportunity to work with the much-acclaimed SS Rajamouli. Although never disclosing the name of the film, the audience believed that he was talking about Magadheera, which eventually starred Ram Charan and became a defining film in Telugu cinema. Stepping away from this project remains one of the most talked-about decisions of his career.
2. Aasai
Aasai is another film that allegedly arrived early into Suriya's career, directed by Vasanth in 1995. But he thought that was not a good project for him to take on, since he did not feel very strongly about acting then. At least, Aasai turned out a box office hit with Ajith Kumar in it. Again, Suriya's decision speaks of his selectivity, even in the early years of his career.
3. Thuppakki
Suriya and director AR Murugadoss made a superhit film together with Ghajini, but Suriya is believed to have turned down another important offer that the director made to him for Thuppakki. The film ultimately went to Vijay and ended up a box office treasure. While fans envision how Suriya might have been suited to the role, the actor's decision not to go for it shows sensible selection of films by him.
4. Paiyaa
Lingusamy's Paiyaa was initially offered to Suriya, who declined, citing non-assignment with the character. The movie went to his brother Karthi and emerged a super hit, which enhanced the stardom of Karthi multifold. With this choice, Suriya care while doing roles that capture his heart.
5. Dhruva Natchathiram
Dhruva Natchathiram was another Gautham Menon movie that had been abandoned by Suriya due to some creative differences. However, to everyone's dismay Vikram has joined the movie with yet no release on date. News proves that Suriya is willing to work only under conditions that allow for creative alignment.
