Thangalaan

Vikram's latest film, Thangalaan, opened with a respectable collection at the box office on its first day, despite facing competition from other releases and receiving mixed reviews. Directed by Pa Ranjith, this action-packed saga debuted on Independence Day, which helped boost its earnings. According to Sacnilk, the film collected ₹12 crore across India on day one. Despite its competition and reviews, the film's unique appeal helped it gain attention from the audience.

A Decent Start for Thangalaan

The Tamil version of Thangalaan was the major contributor to its first-day earnings, raking in ₹11 crore. The Telugu version added another ₹1.5 crore, bringing the total to ₹12.6 crore. The overall occupancy for the Tamil version in theaters was around 71.64%, a good sign for the film's potential in the coming days. However, compared to Vikram's previous blockbuster, Ponniyin Selvan: II, which made ₹25 crore on its first day in Tamil Nadu alone, Thangalaan still has room to grow. The film is expected to benefit from the extended holiday weekend, which could help it catch up at the box office.

The Story Behind Thangalaan

Set in 1850 CE, Thangalaan transports viewers to the Veppur village of North Arcot, where a tribal chief named Thangalaan is employed by British officer Lord Clement to find gold in what is now known as the Kolar Gold Fields. The film stars Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, and Pasupathy, among others. As the tribe embarks on their mission, they face challenges from a local sorceress named Aarathi, leading to a dramatic conflict. The film’s captivating story, co-written by Tamil Prabha and Pa Ranjith, offers a blend of action, fantasy, and historical drama.

Despite clashing with big releases like Stree 2, Vedaa, Khel Khel Mein, and Double iSmart, Thangalaan has managed to hold its ground at the box office.
