Mumbai, India—On Saturday evening, the Mumbai Police Control Room received a threat message from an unidentified number targeting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The message issued a threat that if CM Yogi did not quit his position within 10 days, he would have to face a similar ending like that of Maharashtra politician Baba Siddiqui who was shot dead.

The message, which was passed on the network of Mumbai Police Traffic Control cell, has triggered prompt response from Maharashtra as well as from Uttar Pradesh's police. Mumbai Police started with the thorough investigation regarding tracing the source of that threat and Uttar Pradesh Police have also been alerted while coordinating with the concerned officers of Mumbai for assuring the safety of the CM Yogi.

Under Investigation

The authorities have taken it very seriously to identify the sender who is still unknown at this point in time. The Mumbai Police are trying to track down the phone number that was used to send the message, while strengthening security protocols around CM Yogi. This is the latest in a series of threats against the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister in recent months and has resulted in an increased security presence in both states.

CM Yogi not a Stranger to Threats

CM Yogi Adityanath was in the face of various types of threats this year too. On April, some person has sent an sms through emergency helpline Dial 112 of UP to say "I am soon going to kill CM Yogi." The Police very promptly arrested the culprit, catching him even within a day or so. In such threats issued on Social Networking Sites Twitter and Facebook etc. Various culprits were apprehended at several places Mumbai and Bihar too.

In each of the three cases, the police has been prompt, mobilizing security forces in time for the identification and arrest of those making the threats.
The Case of Baba Siddiqui

The latest has brought the tragic example of Baba Siddiqui back into public discourse. A Nationalist Congress Party politician and former Maharashtra minister, he was gunned down in a public shooting incident. He was shot on Vijayadashami. It is alleged that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang accepted responsibility for his murder. After Baba Siddiqui's death, it is alleged that the gang issued an open threat to others tied to personalities like Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and underworld lord Dawood Ibrahim to expect retribution.

Increased vigilance over Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra following threat
After receiving the threat, heightened security surrounds CM Yogi. Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh policemen are vigilant, on high alert to observe any such attempt against the Chief Minister. They are alerting Indian law enforcement in general, being well aware of the risks and maintaining that extra level of surveillance.

As a reaction, both local and state-level security forces are examining all potential threats on the ground and staying high on alert to safeguard the Chief Minister and stabilize both regions.
