18-year-old Arrested for Attacking Friend Over Cigarette Dispute in Thane
In a bizarre incident from Thane, Maharashtra, an 18-year-old youth named Ayaz Khalil Momin was arrested for attacking his friend who refused to share a cigarette. The attack was inflicted at Bhivandi's hotel and the victim, 30 years old Aslam Babu Sheikh remains in a very vulnerable condition.
The police reports said the fight started when Sheikh demanded Momin share his cigarette. Of course, this small request became a fierce argument. According to eyewitnesses, Momin became infuriated, pulled out a sharp weapon from some place, and stabbed Sheikh multiple times, leaving him with deep injuries; Sheikh was taken immediately to the nearby hospital for treatment by doctors for further attention.
It is a case of assault, which happened when the two were having dinner with friends. Sheikh's one friend lodged a complaint to the police, and after a very short interval, Ayaz Khalil Momin was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The case is still under police investigation, and Momin stays behind bars.
The vicious crime evolves when one witnesses a disturbing trend in the Maharashtra state, as a spate of disputed fatal cases start involving friends and acquaintances. Just over a fortnight back, there was such a case in the city of Latur where a man was killed by his friend after a physical brawl.
The ruling authorities, on their part, have emphasised that conflict resolution is necessary in the routine affairs of life and even over issues as petty as the distribution of a cigarette. The incident marked an increasing trend about violent outbursts over minor disagreements in the state.
The police assured the public that this would not go unpunished and extreme action taken against the perpetrators of such brutal acts. It is but another grim reminder about how fast seemingly simple disputes could turn dangerous and even lead to the loss of life.
