A controversy has erupted at Bhopal Barkatullah University , as hostel warden Ayesha Rais allegedly asked students to submit a written apology for visiting a temple and reciting the Sundarkand. The students also alleged that the warden had asked them to take permission before going to the temple. To protest against the incident, ABVP staged a protest chanting Ramdhun in front of the university.

Controversy at Bhopal University Over Apology Demand

The warden however defended her action by saying that the incident was being mispresented as a religious issue, when according to her it was just a question of instilling discipline. She pointed out that it was all about hostel regulations and ensuring the protection and timely return of the students. The Vice Chancellor had formed a committee to look into the matter in detail, said Rais, referring to the fact that the incident had already been sorted out. To justify herself, she clearly said the university rules prohibit free movement of students for security and disciplinary purposes, not religious purposes. She was highly against the statement being worded from a religious angle and said her intention was to sternly impose hostel rules and regulations.

However, ABVP perceives her activities as infringement upon personal and religious rights of the students and there had widespread campus protests. As the probe continues, the committee of the university is also supposed to analyze this incident and take necessary action pertaining to complaints raised by students and members of ABVP.
