Akhilesh Yadav Hits Back at CM Yogi over DNA Remark: DNA Test for Both of Them Required Now

In a fresh political dispute following the Sambhal violence, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav has criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his controversial remarks about DNA testing. The controversy took a start when CM Yogi spoke during a press briefing on December 6; in the course of his narration, he stated that it is the same DNA between violence in Ayodhya and Sambhal; then there was what started in Bangladesh. This swiftly blew into a political tempest in the state while leaders of opposition condemned the comment for being inflammatory and not conducive to amity in any way.

CM Yogi responded sharply by raising questions on the repeated DNA checks spoken about by the Chief Minister. Yadav dared the Chief Minister to make some real statements before the people of Uttar Pradesh. He quipped, "If CM Yogi is so keen on DNA testing, he should first check his own DNA, as well as mine." Yadav also went on to criticize the trivialities being focused by Yogi, asking him to concentrate on governance and sort out the pressing problems of development of the state.

The new turn Uttar Pradesh politics has taken is when leaders from both sides of the aisle continue to engage each other in verbal spats for the next elections. According to Yadav, constant references to DNA were at a distance from real concerns in the state as these were more about the concern for development and the people. Yadav told people that they deserve a CM from Uttar Pradesh who cares to speak about their problems instead of making baseless comments.

Yadav made the comments during a visit to Kanpur, where he attended a wedding function. He used the opportunity to also criticize CM Yogi for his administration's handling of public matters. While the remarks regarding DNA may seem like a distraction, the political ramifications of such statements are clear: the ongoing war of words between the ruling BJP and opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh is likely to intensify as the state heads toward more elections.
