BJP leader and former MP Navneet Rana was allegedly spat upon and pelted with flying chairs by a mob in a shocking attack on a political rally at Amravati, Maharashtra. The attack came on her campaign in Khallar village ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Viral footage of the incident, which shows how the chaotic mob hurled chairs in her direction, as some hit her security personnel, has now spread over the internet.

Navneet Rana, the election campaigner for BJP candidate Ramesh Bundile in Daryapur constituency, claimed she was verbally abused before the situation turned violent. "We were peacefully campaigning when the crowd started obscene gestures and honking horns. After I resumed my speech, they raised inflammatory slogans and hurled chairs, she recalls. She further disclosed in a statement that her attackers spat on her, but spit fell upon the attire of a security officer.

As chairs started flying through the air, Rana's security team intervened and rescued her from the jaws of trouble. Scandalized by the affair, the former MP still made it to police station Khallar to file a complaint. Police reviewing viral videos to identify perpetrators in this case; more security force has been deployed in the area.

The attack occurred ahead of the crucial November 20 election in Daryapur, where the BJP is battling other parties. A clash between the two groups is suspected to have led to violence, but police say they are still investigating. Inspector Kiran Wankhade of Amravati Rural Crime Branch appealed to citizens not to believe any rumors while the investigations are on.

Navneet Rana is a prominent name in the Maharashtra political circle and was an Independent MP representing Amravati in 2019 before joining hands with the BJP. Her husband Ravi Rana is an MLA from the Badnera seat. Already, the BJP leader's campaign in Amravati had grabbed attention; however, the violent incident has raised concerns about safety during the elections scheduled soon.
