On the day of Audit Diwas, CAG Girish Chandra Murmu explained how the institution led and represented at the global level in audit forums. Here is the speech by the CAG in which he talks about the accomplishment of the institution to make sure that accountability and transparency prevail.

Audit Diwas: CAG and Om Birla Spotlight Global Impact

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday stated that financial discipline and transparency are core to the development of the country, as he addressed the 4th Audit Diwas celebrations at the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) headquarters in New Delhi. The CAG's extra ordinary efforts in the direction of financial accountability have earned much respect globally, an institution renowned for its credibility and professionalism.".

Financial discipline and transparency are the way to make India a developed and influential country. The CAG has played an important role in this regard and I hope it will become a global guide in auditing. Many countries may adopt our audit system," Birla said. Speaking on the occasion, CAG of India, Girish Chandra Murmu underlined the leadership that the institution carries out in global forums for audits. Further, it has also reflected the re-election of the CAG as the External Auditor to many other prominent international organizations, namely the World Health Organization (WHO), Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, International Labour Organization, International Atomic Energy Agency, and Food and Agriculture Organization. It is indeed a testament to India's emerging stature in the world of international auditing with professionalism and transparency. He also said that it is technology that contributes to modernizing audit practices. "Our Centre for Data Management and Analytics acts as a centre of excellence doing research and development, thereby furthering data analytics for audit effectiveness and leading the field offices, he said.

November 16 is celebrated as Audit Diwas, marking the establishment of the first Auditor General in India in 1860. The day epitomizes a staggering legacy of 164 years of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department in upholding principles of good governance, transparency, and accountability.
Murmu reiterated that the CAG was committed to the values that were entrusted to it, embracing innovation and devotion in tackling new challenges to realize sustained national and international impacts.
