Bengaluru, Karnataka: A BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) driver for a few moments experienced sudden heartbreak that cost him life. It was on Wednesday 11 a.m. when this incident occurred, during which the bus conductor, Obalesh, acted fast and saved the day by successfully evacuating all the passengers on board.
How Incident Unfolded

The driver, Kiran Kumar, 40 years of age, was driving BMTC bus number 256M/1, plying between Nelamangala to Dasanapura. He was driving vehicle no KA 57 F-4007 when he suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed, rendering him unconscious. When he blacked out, the bus, still moving, left the 10 passengers on board to the mercy of fate.

Conductor's Bravery

And with a swift motion, the conductor Obalesh immediately saw the driver collapse and stepped up himself to take control. Not a single minute passed by without action; he walked up to the bus and steered the vehicle to a stop on the side of the road. He was quick and responded accordingly and was able to do so in pressure situations that might have ended fatally in another person's hands. Though the bus was in contact with another vehicle belonging to BMTC during this maneuver, due to Obalesh's alert mind, no one on board incurred any injury.

Kirin Kumar's Sudden Demise

With the bus parked safely, Obalesh took Kiran Kumar to a hospital near the spot, V.P. Magnus Hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. The officials at BMTC, said that Kiran Kumar, resident of Hassan, was fit and gave no indication of any serious ailment before his death. Kiran Kumar's wife and 5-year old daughter were in deep grief over Kiran Kumar's sudden death.

The whole incident was shot by the CCTV cameras inside the bus while Kiran Kumar collapsed and Obalesh timely intervention became a savior that prevented the tragedy from taking the massive form. The video footage has captured how the immediate presence of mind and control from the conductor stopped the bus from moving into the traffic line, thus saving the day.

City in Grief

BMTC officials and also the local people have appreciated conductor Obalesh for his bold act. The presence of mind brought saving of passengers, stopping the threat of the bus going astray that may have caused damage and injuries if the bus continued its journey without control.

One is reminded of the uncertainty in which life can be cut short, and the very important role that public transport employees are playing to make passengers feel safe. His family and colleagues at work grieve over the untimely loss of a dedicated worker, while the community talks about Obalesh's bravery in the face of a crisis.
