Chaos at Haryana Roadshow: Dushyant Chautala, Chandrashekhar Attacked as Election Tensions Soar, Complaint Filed with EC!
A violent incident occurred in the Uchana Assembly constituency of Haryana’s Jind district during a roadshow featuring Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala and Azad Samaj Party (ASP) president Chandrashekhar. A group of youths pelted stones at the convoy, causing chaos and breaking the rear windshield of Chandrashekhar’s vehicle. The attack took place as the leaders were passing through Uchana Kalan village with their supporters late in the evening, disrupting the roadshow and spreading panic among attendees.
The situation escalated when an argument broke out between Dushyant Chautala and Uchana Station House Officer (SHO) Pawan Kumar, intensifying the tension. Following the attack, a large crowd of supporters and locals gathered at the scene, further aggravating the situation.
The JJP and ASP recently formed an alliance ahead of the 2024 Haryana Assembly Elections, with JJP contesting 70 seats and ASP 20 seats. The roadshow was part of their joint election campaign, with Chautala running as a candidate from Uchana and Chandrashekhar showing his support. The attack occurred as the alliance sought to demonstrate its unity and electoral strength.
Following the incident, Dushyant Chautala issued a one-hour ultimatum for the attackers to be arrested, warning of serious consequences if immediate action was not taken. SHO Pawan Kumar assured that a case would be filed against the culprits and necessary action would be taken. However, Chautala demanded swift arrests.
ASP president Chandrashekhar expressed deep anger over the attack, questioning the failure of police security. He hinted that the attack might have been motivated by his Dalit background, raising concerns of caste-based targeting. He also criticized law enforcement for their lack of protection and warned that he would pursue legal action not only against the attackers but also against the security personnel responsible for the lapse.
Dushyant Chautala announced that he would be filing a complaint with the Election Commission about the attack. He further alleged that this was the second time he had been targeted during elections. Chautala also called for an investigation by another senior IPS officer and questioned the inadequate security despite Chandrashekhar having Y-category security. He stressed that he would bring the issue to the attention of the Election Commission.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. During the Lok Sabha elections, a similar attack was carried out on a convoy belonging to JJP leader Naina Chautala. Dushyant Chautala questioned the presence of the same Superintendent of Police and station in-charge during both attacks, calling for stricter monitoring by a senior officer ahead of the Assembly elections.
