Congress to Go Full Throttle in Parliament Over BJP's 'Traitor' Remark on Rahul Gandhi: Winter Session Drama Unfolds

The winter session of the Parliament has seen fierce disruptions, mainly by the Opposition Congress over issues such as Adani bribery charges and violence in Sambhal. The first two weeks saw the session largely paralysed, with the lead charge against the government given by Congress MPs to ask for accountability. However, the situation has escalated further following an inflammatory remark by the ruling BJP, which calls Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, a "traitor."

The BJP comment on Rahul Gandhi as a "traitor" in the wake of alleged links to billionaire George Soros has sparked a major controversy. This controversial statement is likely to occupy the third week of the winter session, where the Congress is going to further intensify protests and disrupt parliamentary proceedings. Once again, this development puts the spotlight on the ongoing political battle between the ruling BJP and the Congress, which has traded heavy allegations on both sides.

Although there are many interruptions, the Banking Amendment Bill has still been passed; yet, some important legislations, like the Railways Amendment Bill and the Disaster Management Bill, have failed to reach the finishing line due to protests from the Opposition, and key allies like SP and TMC have also been cautious not to endorse fully Congress's aggressive position on the matter. The TMC has maintained distance from Congress protests over the Adani issue while SP, displeased with Congress handling the Sambhal violence, hasn't been too supportive either.

It's going to be a very critical week coming ahead to see how this winter session unfolds. As things stand, despite the attempts from opposition quarters to disrupt the deliberation, the government has made the best of it; however, a two-day debate on the Constitution on 13th and 14th December is scheduled with an appearance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This session has a lot of political elements where a resolution is not probable given the increasing tensions as there is no sign that both parties are ready for a reconciliation.
