The son of Dawood Ibrahim favors religion over crime. The end for the empire of D-Company?

MUMBAI: In a shocking development, infamous "King of Mumbai's Underworld" Dawood Ibrahim has gone missing. He had been away from India for years. Dawood was said to be hiding in Pakistan. Name and fame for notorious crimes and connections with Bollywood and organized crime, that was Dawood in his heyday in the early 1990s. Now 68 years old and apparently in failing health, Dawood is out of the underworld scene. Questions still surround his son, Moin Ibrahim, if he has inherited his father's empire or developed an interest in the criminal underworld.

Dawood Ibrahim's Legacy: A Reign of Fear and Power

During the 1980s and 1990s, Dawood Ibrahim was a name associated with organized crime in the city of Mumbai. He is often referred to as the head of the "D-Company," though his network, allegedly covered everything from smuggling and extorting money to connections through Bollywood and even cricket. According to reports, he still had connections with actors, politicians, and athletes; his influence transcended his crimes and was felt into the various areas of public life in Mumbai.

After the 1993 bombings that shook Mumbai, however, Dawood fled India and has reportedly been living in Karachi, Pakistan, ever since. Through the years, rumors have surfaced about his health and his waning influence in the underworld. Though some of his operations are said to be still active, Dawood's son, Moin Ibrahim—also known as Moin Kaskar—has shown no interest in filling his father's notorious shoes.

Who Is Moin Ibrahim?

Unlike his father, Moin Ibrahim has largely avoided the public eye. Born into one of India's most feared crime families, Moin has opted for a more private life. Sources close to the family say that Moin has no interest in the underworld business or in running his father's once powerful crime syndicate.

Iqbal Kaskar, Moin's former underworld uncle, also shed some light on his activities and life when the brother was interrogated. During his interaction with law officials, Iqbal asserted that Moin is much apart from the underworld life for he has a spiritual, religiously inclined life; "he has a good family background.". He needs to be seen spending his time in mosques and religious studies; far away from any relations to the "D-Company" operations that his father used to run.

Religion Over Crime: Change in Focus

According to the police reports, Moin is very religious. At times, he was even being circulated as a maulana in 2017, though that was never confirmed. However, one thing is clear: Moin prefers a quiet pious life over his father's underworld empire, and thus Dawood did not leave behind a successor for taking forward his legacy.

This lack of interest from Moin has reportedly been a matter of concern for Dawood, who is said to have sunk into depression over the uncertain future of his empire. The once-feared don, now in hiding and in declining health, faces an era where his own son has shunned the life of crime that once gave Dawood his power and influence.

Dawood's Business and the Future of "D-Company"

With Dawood advancing in age and no heir interested in his operations, the future of "D-Company" remains uncertain. The underworld business was earlier being carried out by Dawood's siblings, including Iqbal Kaskar, but none have risen to the prominence Dawood once commanded. The law enforcement agencies of India, Pakistan, and other countries have always been on Dawood's case, but with Moin keeping at bay from the business, people think this is probably the end for Dawood.

A New Path for Dawood's Son

In this case, while Dawood Ibrahim's name is well-known for the Mumbai underworld, his son Moin has taken a very different turn. He is said to have followed a life of faith and spirituality instead of taking up the family tradition of organized crime. It would be a break in the family connection to this sort of crime and a decline of one of the most notorious crime empires in India.

For now, as Dawood stays underground, the world waits to see what will become of his once-dominant network and whether his family's future will remain tied to the underworld—or if Moin's departure from crime will close this dark chapter once and for all.
