Fake Policeman Arrested in Bareilly for Exploiting Female Officers
The accused, Rajan Verma, allegedly used his false identity to prey on female officers, taking advantage of their trust and extorting money from them.
In a significant breakthrough, Bareilly police have arrested a man posing as a police officer who exploited and financially defrauded several female police officers. The accused, Rajan Verma, allegedly used his false identity to prey on female officers, taking advantage of their trust and extorting money from them.
Rajan Verma, son of Virendra Pal Verma, hailing from Midhniya Garhi village in Lakhimpur Kheri district, was apprehended by the Kotwali Police near Satellite Bus Station. Verma falsely claimed to be a serving police officer and targeted female officers, especially those with the surname "Verma," to easily gain their trust. He is accused of deceiving and exploiting around five female officers, including promising marriage to one of them.
Verma has several cases registered against him in multiple districts, including Moradabad, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shravasti, and Bareilly. The current arrest follows a complaint lodged by a female police officer stationed in Bareilly, who accused him of defrauding her of 3 million rupees. Verma had been on the run for some time before his arrest on Tuesday.
SP City Rahul Bhati stated that a case was registered on July 13, where Verma was accused of luring a female officer with a false promise of marriage and committing fraud. He had been wanted in connection with this case and had confessed to being involved in 8-10 similar incidents. Verma accessed the personal data of his victims from official police websites to carry out his crimes.
The police have now sent Verma to jail, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of his fraudulent activities across the affected districts.
