Maurice Samuel Christian is accused of orchestrating this elaborate deception, fooling many into believing they were engaging with a legitimate judicial process, especially in land disputes within the Gandhinagar area.
The Elaborate Ruse
The scam took on a life of its own, with Christian setting up a mock courtroom that lent an air of legitimacy to his deceitful proceedings. Utilizing a method he first applied in 2019, Christian passed an order favoring his client concerning a disputed government land plot, claiming to have been appointed as the “official arbitrator” by the government. His clients, lured by the promise of quick resolutions to their land-related issues, were unaware they were being duped.
The Shocking Discovery
Christian initiated fake proceedings within his fabricated tribunal, ultimately passing orders that directed local authorities to alter revenue records to include his client’s name. To implement this fraudulent order, he enlisted another lawyer to file an appeal in the city civil court, attaching the fraudulent decree he had issued. However, the facade began to crumble when court registrar Hardik Desai discovered that Christian had no legitimate claim as an arbitrator and that the order was entirely bogus.
