Gujarat: IAS Officer's Wife Dies by Suicide Amid Scandalous 'Affair' With Gangster

Gandhinagar, Gujarat: In a tragic turn of events, the wife of a senior IAS officer from Gujarat, identified as Surya, died by suicide on Sunday after ingesting poison. She had been admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital on Saturday in an unconscious state, but despite medical efforts, she did not survive. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation.

Surya, originally from Tamil Nadu, had been living separately from her IAS husband, Ranjit Kumar, for several months. Media reports suggest that she was involved in a relationship with a notorious gangster known as 'High Court Maharaja.' Additionally, her name surfaced in connection with the kidnapping of a 14-year-old boy in Tamil Nadu. On July 11, the gangster, along with his accomplice Senthil Kumar, kidnapped the child and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore. However, the police successfully rescued the boy, leading to a manhunt for Surya.

Approximately nine months ago, Surya left her husband and was reportedly in a relationship with the gangster. For the past eight months, she had not been residing in Gujarat. Recently, when her husband expressed his intention to divorce her, Surya attempted to return to his home but was denied entry. Distraught, she consumed poison outside the house and was later hospitalized, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Before taking her own life, Surya left behind a note detailing her struggles. According to police sources, the letter mentioned the deceit she faced in Tamil Nadu and her failed attempts to start a new life due to financial entanglements. She did not accuse her husband of any wrongdoing in the note.

Senior IAS officer Ranjit Kumar, a 2005 batch officer, serves as the Secretary of the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC). The couple had been experiencing marital discord for a prolonged period.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Surya’s death and her connections to the criminal activities in Tamil Nadu.
