Heavy Rains Cause Flooding on Ghaziabad’s Elevated Road, Leading to Major Traffic Disruptions
Ghaziabad's elevated road, often referred to as the city's lifeline, once again demonstrated its vulnerability as heavy rains led to severe waterlogging beneath the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME). The flooding brought traffic to a standstill, causing major disruptions for commuters.
The heavy rainfall, which began early in the morning, exacerbated the situation for city residents. The lane of the elevated road heading from Raj Nagar Extension towards Delhi saw long queues of vehicles, adding to the already existing traffic pressure due to the opening of offices and schools. The downpour turned the traffic woes into chaos.
Waterlogging on the elevated road is not a new issue, yet no permanent solution has been implemented to address it. The section beneath the DME frequently gets submerged, leading to significant inconvenience for travelers.

Frustrated commuters stuck in the traffic jam expressed their dissatisfaction with the administration's handling of the situation. Many criticized the fact that such a costly infrastructure project could be so poorly equipped to handle rainwater. Numerous individuals took to social media to share photos and videos of their struggles, further fueling public outrage.
Commuter Woes
Many commuters were stranded in their vehicles for hours, with schoolchildren, working professionals, and others with urgent matters particularly affected. Several people reported missing important appointments and commitments due to the delays.
The traffic congestion on the elevated road also had a ripple effect on the city's commercial activities. Shopkeepers noted a decrease in customer footfall, as people chose to stay home to avoid the chaotic roads.

This incident highlights the urgent need for the authorities to address the persistent issue of waterlogging on the elevated road, especially during the monsoon season, to prevent further disruptions and ensure smoother traffic flow in the future.
