India and Pakistan have recently upgraded their rail systems through luxury train services, each boasting improvements in speed, technology, and comfort. Here are two standout trains - India's Vande Bharat Express and Pakistan's Green Line Express-that epitomize what each country is doing to enhance rail travel.

Vande Bharat Express, the first semi-high speed indigenous train launched in India by PM Narendra Modi in 2019, promises to redefine travel experiences. The train runs at 160 km/h along electrified broad gauge and features modern amenities such as ergonomic reclining seats, rotating executive class, and onboard CCTV. Every seat is provided with a mobile charging socket, and the coaches are designed with safety requirements like emergency windows, fire extinguishers, and communication systems from the driver to the guard with voice recording capabilities.

This vision is to commission 4,500 trains of which the Modi government plans to do so by 2047. At present, early 2024, 82 Vande Bharat trains have been operating in the states of the country. This is one of the key components of the railway modernization project of India.

Since 2015, Pakistan's Green Line Express has been an upscale way to travel from Karachi to Islamabad. With a distance of roughly 1,285 km, the train takes about 22 hours to cover this distance by offering Wi-Fi and onboard entertainment along with free meals. The AC Parlor Class of the train is highly in demand due to its comfort and being kind of luxurious bus-like experience. With a maximum speed of 105 km/h, average speeds of 72 km/h, it is slow but luxurious compared to Vande Bharat.

Two Parlor cars are in the train with five Business coaches and six AC Standard coaches for passengers. Its ticket prices are very sensitive to changes brought about by economic factors.
