Militants fight security forces; soldiers hurt in Kishtwar Encounter, 2 injured JAMMU, India AP- The gun battle, reportedly at Keshwan of Kishtwar Jammu and Kashmir area of is said to have pitted a group of unknown number of militants.

Intelligence input about the presence of militants triggered the clashes between both parties, which were responded to by the security forces without any second thought. According to the authorities, the militants involved in the clash are the same killers who had cold-bloodedly murdered two unarmed civilians in the region recently.

Search Operation Launched in Srinagar

The security personnel have already launched a reprise operation in Srinagar based on reports that militants were hiding in the area. Troops, while conducting a search operation in Zabarwan Forest, were fired upon by militants, which led to an intense exchange of gun battle. Officials said the two militants are now surrounded and hoped to be neutralized soon.

The current combing operations are part of a larger exercise to flush out militants in Kashmir, in particular after some reported cases of infiltrations. More than 50 militants are believed to have infiltrated the Kashmir Valley lately, which has heightened tensions and increased the chance of encountering further cases.

Recent Spike in Militancy and Response from Security Forces

These skirmishes come at a time when militant activity is at a peak in the Kashmir Valley, particularly since recent elections took place. Since then, security forces have been constantly clashing with rebels and the government has come under tremendous pressure to reach a resolution over the violence that has been ongoing.

Security forces have killed one militant during a gunfight in Sopore of Jammu and Kashmir, and operations are still on. Police have informed that the killed militant might have had a linkage to another Pakistani origin militant who was killed recently in the area.

Security Forces Remain on High Alert

While the intelligence reports suggest that the infiltration may be going on unabated, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are certainly not lowering their guard. The military is widening its search operations over suspected militant hideouts in that state. These operations are very crucial to prevent further violence as well as dismantle the alleged militants' network operating in that area.

The security forces are committed toward reinforcing peace, and there is a possibility of avoiding further damage to human life. The attention at the moment is toward eradicating the immediate threat while taking care of the civilians in that area in the course of the search operations.
