Jammu & Kashmir: Success for Security Forces, Two Terrorists Killed, Three Arrested in Srinagar

The Indian Army undertook major strikes against terrorists on Friday, November 8, in Sopore. While the forces were engaged with an encounter, two terrorists were killed after they opened fire on forces conducting a search operation.

Brigadier Deepak Mohan, the Commanding Officer of 7 Sector RR, said the Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and CRPF had launched the operation on basis of intelligence inputs received on November 7 about two terrorists hiding in that area. This search led to a gunfight in which the terrorists were neutralized, and a large cache of arms and other materials was recovered. Terrorists were active in North Kashmir for the last couple of days, it is reported. Three LeT Associates were arrested in a connection with a grenade attack at Srinagar on Sunday. The attack, targeted against the security forces, left 12 civilians injured. IGP Kashmir Zone V.K. Birdi said three persons, Usama Yaseen Sheikh, Umar Fayyaz Sheikh, and Afnan Mansoor Sheikh, had been arrested. According to officials, the attack was aimed at upsetting "peace and harmony" in the region and was carried out on the orders of Pakistan-based terrorist handlers.

The grenade attack is directed at security forces deployed at a weekly flea market. Terrorists threw grenades, which went off close to a paramilitary vehicle, leaving 12 civilians hurt. It indicates that security challenges in the region are still on, as authorities continue counter-terrorism operations and remain vigilant about activities whose intentions are to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
