Jhansi Medical College Fire Incident: Principal Removed, 3 Suspended After Probe
Significant developments had emerged after the tragic fire incidence that occurred in Jhansi Medical College. With directives issued by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, the principal of the college, Dr Narendra Singh Sengar, had been removed. Moreover, there has been a suspension of three more staff members who included a medical superintendent, electrician, and the nursing sister in-charge.
The fire incident at Jhansi Medical College had brought serious questions about the safety standards in government medical institutions. A four-member inquiry committee was constituted to investigate the incident. Based on the findings of the report submitted by the committee, strict action was taken to ensure accountability. The report had brought out severe lapses in the safety measures and the overall response to the fire, which led to the dismissal and suspension of key personnel.
Dr. Narendra Singh Sengar, the Principal of Jhansi Medical College, has been transferred to the Directorate of Medical Education. The Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sachin Mahur, has been issued a charge sheet, and he will have to answer for his role in the incident. Sanjeet Kumar, who was responsible for the electrical systems of the college, has also been suspended immediately.
In addition, the Nursing Sister In-charge of the NICU ward, Sandyha Rai, has been suspended for not adhering to safety measures in place during the fire. Chief Superintendent of the Medical College, Dr. Sunita Rathore, has also been suspended pending further investigation.
This swift action has been undertaken as part of a larger movement to overcome the lack of safety measures that caused this event. The state government wants to implement better safety standards across all medical institutions in the state, so that incidents like this may not occur in the future. The probe and subsequent steps reflect how seriously the authorities are taking up this issue.
This is a stark reminder of the need for fire safety and emergency preparedness in public healthcare institutions. Both staff and patients should be made a priority to avoid such mishaps. The Deputy Chief Minister is ensuring justice through direct intervention by holding responsible people accountable.
