Atiq-Ashraf’s Legacy of Fear: Kanpur Faces Chakia Gang Terror

A new region in Kanpur is getting under the shadow of one of the infamous gangs-the Chakia gang associated with the late mafia dons Atiq and Ashraf. Here, a local woman, who lodged a complaint after the gang threatened her along with her family for complaining against illegal dumping and against a drain dispute. The situation worsened when gang members, including one identified as Mohammad Arif from Prayagraj's Naini, who was identified as a key member of the Chakia gang, brutally attacked her husband.Though the police were inactive, senior officials intervened, and soon, a serious case was registered.

Drain Dispute Turns Deadly

The controversy started when the woman, confronted the residents on improper disposal of waste and waterlogging issue. This issue led to the threats in the name of Atiq-Ashraf and then a dangerous assault on her husband.
The attackers included Mohammad Arif, who is reportedly a mainstay of the Chakia gang and resides in Naini area of Prayagraj.
The Chakia gang name is again back into the concerns in Kanpur.

Negligence of the Police

The victim leveled allegations of neglect by local police towards her complaints earlier. But then, senior police officers took charge and, under serious sections of law, cases were registered against the offenders.

Increased Anxiety in Citizens
The influence of Chakia gang is rapidly increasing and a sense of insecurity among people is intensifying in this area as well. There are now complaints regarding security and such crimes call for severe punishment only.
