Kanpur Gym Trainer Evades Police for 4 Months After Burying Woman Near DM Compound

KANPUR — In a heart-stopping case that has gripped Kanpur, a gym trainer was on Tuesday arrested for the murder of a businessman's wife whose body was exhumed buried near the DM compound after four months of investigation. The accused identified as Vimal Soni managed to evade police and escaped to Punjab, kept a low profile and had been staying off the radar for months.

The disappearance and discovery

The case started on June 24, when a local businessman complained that his wife, Ekta, was missing. Preliminary mobile location data indicated that both Ekta and Vimal had their last known locations close to the DM's residence near Nanarav Park. Police officers combed through the area based on the initial investigation; however, Vimal had already left Kanpur and not much remained to follow up.

Vimal had finally been arrested after four months. He was dragged out by the police and divulged under questioning that he had buried Ekta's body near the DM residence. Skeletal remains were found during excavation, proving his admission.

How Vimal Avoided Cops

He moved to Punjab from Kanpur soon after committing the crime. There, he worked at a hotel temporarily. In fact, he stayed for a few months without communication with anybody. The conduct was such that even the employer raised suspicion about him. Vimal admitted maintaining a very hard distance from all channels of communication with the intention of not being traced. He did not use any mobile device at all. He did not make calls and send text messages. Because of it, the police could not trace him.

Police Investigation and Lead

Police started questioning Vimal's relatives and acquaintances during the investigation. They finally got a lead when Vimal's nephew was seen taking clothes to the railway station. From there, they tracked the officers to his sister, who eventually led them to Vimal in Punjab. On his arrest, Vimal confessed to having murdered Ekta on the very day she went missing, after which he left the city, making the family believe that they had eloped together.

Challenges and Questions

Since Vimal ran away for four months from the police, it implies that to trail the wanted who desist from any form of digital communication, it isn't easy. His skills in burying the body near the official's dwelling raise questions regarding the measures taken in securing high-sensitivity areas. The police are interrogating him with the aim of getting some more information regarding how he managed to put the body in that very sensitive, prominent area without being recognized.

The case is still under investigation as police try to find out more concerning Vimal's means and other co-conspirators.
