The month of October has started with a jolt for consumers as the price of LPG gas cylinders has been increased. From October 1, 2024, the cost of 19 kg commercial gas cylinders has been hiked across several cities, while the price of 14 kg domestic cylinders remains unchanged.
In New Delhi, the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen from ₹1,691.50 to ₹1,740. Similarly, in Mumbai, the price has increased from ₹1,605 in September to ₹1,692.50. In Kolkata, the cost has gone up from ₹1,802.50 to ₹1,850.50, and in Chennai, the price has risen from ₹1,855 to ₹1,903.
Price Changes Across Cities
According to the latest data from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), these new rates are effective from October 1, 2024. The price hike affects major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.
Here’s a breakdown of the new rates for the 19 kg commercial gas cylinder:
- Delhi: ₹1,740 (previously ₹1,691.50)
- Mumbai: ₹1,692.50 (previously ₹1,605)
- Kolkata: ₹1,850.50 (previously ₹1,802.50)
- Chennai: ₹1,903 (previously ₹1,855)
Continuous Price Increase Since July
The price of the 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has been steadily rising since July 2024. While oil marketing companies provided a price cut of ₹30 per cylinder in July, the trend has reversed, and prices have been increasing monthly. In August, the price of the 19 kg cylinder increased by ₹8.50, and in September, customers faced a ₹39 hike.
No Change in Domestic Cylinder Prices
While the prices of commercial LPG cylinders have seen frequent adjustments, the cost of 14 kg domestic LPG cylinders has remained steady. The last price change for domestic cylinders was in March 2024 when the central government announced a ₹100 reduction to mark International Women’s Day. Since then, the prices of domestic cylinders have stayed unchanged at ₹803 in Delhi, ₹829 in Kolkata, ₹802.50 in Mumbai, and ₹818.50 in Chennai.
This stability in domestic LPG cylinder prices has provided some relief to consumers, though the rising cost of commercial cylinders continues to affect businesses and commercial operations.
