The elections saw approximately 65.11% voter turnout across 1,00,186 polling booths in Maharashtra. Over 4,100 candidates contested this year, marking an increase compared to the 2019 elections, which had 96,654 booths.
Major Alliances and Contestants
Two key alliances dominate this year’s elections:
- Mahayuti Alliance (BJP-led): Includes BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), and NCP (Ajit Pawar). The BJP contested 149 seats, Shiv Sena fielded 81, and NCP had 59 candidates.
- Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA): Comprises Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar). Congress fielded 101 candidates, Shiv Sena (UBT) had 95, and NCP (SP) contested 86 constituencies.
Smaller parties like BSP, AIMIM, and over 2,000 independents also participated. BSP contested 237 seats, while AIMIM fielded 17 candidates. Additionally, more than 150 constituencies witnessed rebel candidates from both Mahayuti and MVA alliances.
