Maharashtra Oath Ceremony 2024: Devendra Fadnavis to Take CM Oath, Over 40,000 Expected
Maharashtra is all set for the oath-taking ceremony in the most grand manner today. The third time Chief Minister is going to be sworn in as the Chief Minister. It will be held at Azad Maidan in Mumbai with an audience of more than 40,000. The attendees would include big political figures and the most important dignitaries of the nation, such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Ministers of several NDA states.
Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar from the NCP will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers in the much-awaited ceremony, thus completing the power trio of the newly formed Mahayuti alliance that emerged victorious in the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections, bagging a commanding majority with 235 out of 288 seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 132 seats, while Shiv Sena and NCP added strength with 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
Swearing in marks the return of Devendra Fadnavis to Maharashtra governance as he was elected as the Leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party with an unanimous vote. Fadnavis thanked Mahayuti alliance workers for landslide victory in the Assembly election and promised to fulfill all the commitments made to the people of Maharashtra.
The opposition coalition, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), was dealt a heavy defeat in the elections, with Congress winning only 16 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) securing 20 seats, and Sharad Pawar's NCP faction gaining only 10 seats.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the event, over 4,000 police personnel, including specialized units such as State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Quick Response Teams (QRT), have been stationed at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The traffic in South Mumbai will also be monitored closely by 280 traffic personnel to handle the crowd and VIPs.
This swearing-in ceremony is not only a very significant political event but also an expression of the strength of the Mahayuti alliance as it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Maharashtra politics under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis.
