A 20-year-old man, Arjun Tanwar, was arrested on Thursday, December 5, 2024, for allegedly murdering his parents and sister in Delhi's Neb Sarai area. Police recovered his blood-stained sweatshirt and the weapon used in the crime—a military knife—from Sanjay Van late Wednesday night.
The victims included Rajesh Kumar (51), an ex-army man and his wife Komal, 46 years old, together with their 23-year-old daughter Kavita who were found dead in the house in the Deoli village on Wednesday morning. Police said that apparently, Tanwar was miffed with his family, which he felt ignored him while his parents spent much time over his sister.
Murder of Sister: Tanwar first slit his sister's throat when she was sleeping.
Murder of Parents: Then he proceeded upstairs and stabbed his father in the neck and slit his mother's throat in the washroom while she was in it.
Cover-up: After murdering his parents, Tanwar cleaned up the bloodstains in the house and gave an alibi to the police that he was at the gym when the murders occurred.
Tanwar threw away his blood-stained clothes and the knife in Sanjay Van and went back home trying to deceive the police.
Background of the Accused
Arjun Tanwar was a political science student at one of Delhi University's colleges. A trainee boxer, he had won a silver medal at the state-level boxers' competition and had attended the Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan previously. His strained relationship with his family has been cited as the cause for this heinous crime he committed.
Ongoing Investigation
The incident has shocked the entire local community. The police have continued their investigation in order to ensure that justice is done, and have described the case as a premeditated one as Tanwar had planned and executed everything meticulously.
