PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti stated on Wednesday that Jammu and Kashmir will never see a BJP government and that no "secular government" can be formed without the support of her party. Speaking to reporters at an election rally, she expressed her willingness to back any secular government in the region to prevent the BJP from gaining power.

"Jammu and Kashmir will never have a BJP government. There will be a secular government in J-K. Whatever government is formed, PDP will be a crucial factor," Mehbooba affirmed. She emphasized, "Without PDP's support, no secular government can be formed in Jammu and Kashmir."

When asked about a potential alliance with the National Conference for government formation, she reiterated that her primary goal is to keep the BJP out of power. Responding to BJP claims of winning over 50 seats and selecting a chief minister from Jammu, she challenged their record, asking, "What have they done for Jammu all these years?" She predicted, "The BJP won't even cross the 15-seat mark."

Additionally, Mehbooba defended her family's legacy against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's criticisms, recalling how her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, upheld the Indian flag during unrest in Kashmir. She criticized Modi for labeling her family as anti-national and reiterated that her party has historically championed India's interests in the region.
