Odisha Tragedy: 5 Dead, 4 Injured in Nomadic Group Clash Over Affair

In a shocking incident in Sundargarh district, Odisha, a violent clash between two nomadic groups left five people dead and four critically injured on Tuesday night. The conflict reportedly arose from an alleged extramarital affair, escalating into a brutal attack involving sharp-edged weapons.

The clash involved a nomadic group from Wardha district, Maharashtra, who had been residing in the Karamdihi area for several months, selling iron household items. According to Brijesh Roy, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Western Range), tensions between the groups began when Abinash Pawar, a member of the Maharashtra group, brought home a new partner after his wife eloped with another man. This move aggravated disputes between the two groups, ultimately leading to Tuesday’s deadly attack.
DIG Roy said that the attackers reportedly attacked at night when Pawar's group was sleeping, killing five people on the spot. Three women and two others from Pawar's group were among the dead. The attackers took away Pawar's new partner and two children as they escaped, leaving Pawar, a woman, and two other children critically injured. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The police have placed neighboring districts Jharsuguda and Sambalpur on red alert in view of the possible escape of the attackers. The police are rigorously monitoring bus and railway stations and other transit points in search of attackers. DIG Roy has said, "An intense investigation is going on. Authorities want to catch those responsible for the violent clash. Justice will be delivered to the victims and their families
