Pahalgam Terror Attack: Security officials have issued sketches of the suspected terrorists who were behind the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives at the picturesque Baisaran meadow in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The sketches were drawn based on eyewitness reports and initial intelligence inputs.

According to News18, four terrorists carried out the ambush, while three others, including Aadil Guree and Asif Sheikh, offered logistical support. The Resistance Front (TRF)—a proxy outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack site, popularly known as "Mini Switzerland", was deliberately chosen for its remoteness, causing delays in rescue operations. Some victims were reportedly targeted using sniper-like precision, while others succumbed to blood loss.

Attackers hailed from all over India, ranging from a US-based techie from Kolkata to a Bihar excise inspector, a Karnataka-based realtor, an Odisha-based accountant, and a Navy officer. A picture of one attacker holding an automatic gun in the meadow has also been published.

National Response and Political Fallout

Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, toured Kashmir and paid tribute to victims with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah.

"Bharat will never yield to terrorism. The offenders won't be exempt," asserted Shah.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shortened his Saudi Arabia trip and skirted Pakistani airspace on his return. As soon as he landed, he met NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar directly to take stock of the situation. The same evening, a cabinet security meeting was scheduled.

In a worrisome turn of events, LeT commander Abu Musa had last month threatened bloodshed in Kashmir at a rally in Rawalkot, PoK on April 18. He appealed for revenge against India over the revocation of Article 370 and 35A, demanding militants to target areas such as Pulwama and Rajouri.
