Poisoned Dinner Shock: UP Man Accuses Wife's Conspiracy at Ghazipur Family Gathering

In a sensational case from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, a man has accused his wife of attempting to poison him during a visit to her family’s home. The alleged incident took place in Dharwa, under the jurisdiction of the Nandganj police district. Sudarshan Bind, a laborer residing with his parents, claims his wife, Kalavati Bind, invited him to stay overnight, only to serve him a meal that he believes was laced with poison.
Sudarshan, who married Kalavati from Dehra Kala village eight years ago, shares two children with her, a son and a daughter. He alleges that marital discord began two years after their marriage, with Kalavati becoming increasingly distant and argumentative.
The Incident and Allegations
Sudarshan recounts that Kalavati prepared dinner for him but refused to eat with him, stating she would dine with her mother instead. Shortly after consuming the food, he experienced dizziness and began frothing at the mouth, leading him to suspect that he had been poisoned.
Charges and Evidence
In his statement, Sudarshan claims that when he attempted to call his family for help, his wife snatched his phone. He overheard her on a phone call with another individual, saying, “I did what you asked me to do, but now I am afraid.” Fearing for his life, he pleaded to be taken to a nearby health center, from where he was later transferred to Sadar Hospital for further treatment. After two days of recovery, he was discharged.
Upon his release, Sudarshan approached the Nandganj police to file an FIR, but initial attempts to lodge the complaint reportedly met resistance. As alleged threats from his in-laws continued, Sudarshan escalated the matter to the Ghazipur Superintendent of Police and, later, sought intervention through the court.
Legal Action After Court’s Intervention
Following court orders, the Nandganj police registered a case against Kalavati and others involved. Charges were filed under sections 147 (rioting), 328 (causing harm by poison), and 506 (criminal intimidation). The complaint names three individuals, with investigations ongoing for four other potential suspects.
This case highlights the complexities of domestic disputes, underscoring the challenges in seeking timely legal action, particularly when initial law enforcement response is delayed.
