There is a chilling case of a woman from Maharashtra, Pratima Nawankur, who reached the police commissionerate in Jaipur in tears. She had come to this city to attend an event prior to the lockdown in 2020 and got stuck here. While stranded here, she took an apartment on rent and joined the gym. It was there that she met with a trainer by name Arif Inayat, who has been charged with trapping her in the web of love.

She was also influenced by love and converted to Islam and married Arif. She claims that he compelled her to indulge in non-consensual sexual relations before the marriage took place formally on October 18, 2021. Pratima also alleges that despite making her convert her religion, Arif did not change her name, a fact she latter came to know was part of a larger scheme. Meanwhile, he sold off her ancestral property in Mumbai for a fraction of its value and started coercing her for money. According to Pratima, he threatened to divorce her if she didn't oblige.
Now, Pratima is suffering from dengue and her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter is also ailing. Meanwhile, Arif has not made either a medical or financial arrangement for her. He continues forcing her to raise the money. Feeling harassed, Pratima approached MLA of local region Bal Mukund Acharya, who motivated her to lodge a complaint with Additional Commissioner Kunwar Rashtrdeep. According to Pratima, her husband tried to misuse his political powers to ensure that her complaint remained unregistered at the Shastri Nagar police station.

MLA Acharya on the issue said that Hindu girls were being trapped through "love jihad," which leads to severe consequences. Since police received her complaint, they started taking her allegations seriously and ordered protection for her. Pratima converted and lost faith in love but seeks to return to her earlier life. She would want to end the marriage affair that had more to it than she could think of - her husband had five children and was already married before marrying her. The police are presently pursuing inquiries.
