Rahul Gandhi Rides Kerala’s Longest Zipline to Boost Tourism in Wayanad Amid Bypolls - Read Now

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently attempted an adventurous escapade in the form of riding Kerala's longest zipline in Wayanad, which bore witness to disastrous landslides that wreaked havoc some months ago. Riding the zipline at the Karapuzha dam site, Rahul Gandhi attempted this adventure ride a few weeks prior to Wayanad bypolls to bring focus to the challenge the region faced during those catastrophic landslides and to advertise its tourism potential. Rahul Gandhi's visit highlighted the final stages of recovery in Wayanad and is reportedly in support of his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is contesting in the by-election for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
A video of the program surfaced on social media where Rahul Gandhi talks about his love and fascination with the locals and how resolute they have been about reviving Wayanad. It was a delight to meet the real heroes on Priyanka's campaign trail in Wayanad yesterday. The locals are doing their best to revive tourism at this place, in such trying times," he said, referring to the new attractions in the region like the giant swing of South India, the drop tower, and the longest zipline in Kerala. Here, Rahul appreciated the courage of the people by saying, "Wayanad is as beautiful as it is safe as ever".
In a lighter vein, he challenged Priyanka Gandhi to share a zipline ride with him; on this, he allowed her to wear a saree and take on the experience. Such remarks encouraged potential visitors to view Wayanad not as a zone of disaster but as a destination for safe visitors.
The new history of Wayanad has been marked by the landslides and floods that struck Choormala and Meppadi in July and took more than 200 lives and causing colossal damage. Amidst rebuilding, a tourist activity by the district will be necessary for the local economy. Rahul Gandhi's zip-line adventure became part of a larger campaign to show that Wayanad is recovering and open to tourists, who remain one of the most important parts of the district's identity and economy.
The campaign of Priyanka Gandhi marks her electoral debut, where she faces the candidate from BJP, Navya Haridas, and LDF candidate Satyan Mokeri. For the bypoll which is in Wayanad after it declared being recovered, emotional scenes were seen at the polling stations as survivors of the land slide gathered to exercise their franchise. Special transport services had been made available for those survivors who were going to their temporary homes for the journey to the polling stations marked out in that sense of resilience and determination of the community to move on.
Rahul Gandhi's zipline adventure and his concern over tourism in Wayanad are signs of what efforts toward normalcy the region and the people there should make to prove the beauty of their place. Promoting safety and attractions for Wayanad, he is hoping that the district will rebound with an impressive tourism economy to restore its strength and support both recovery and Priyanka Gandhi's electoral bid. As hope begins to dawn on Wayanad, the support from Congress leadership underlines the importance of grassroots, community-driven tourism initiatives in the post-disaster era.
