Sakshi Malik Comments on Vinesh Phogat’s Disqualification at Paris Olympics
Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik has commented on Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024 due to a weight issue. Vinesh, who was set to compete in the women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling final, was disqualified for being 100 grams over the weight limit, leaving Indian fans disappointed.
Vinesh Phogat’s Disqualification
Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification came just before the final match, when her weight exceeded the 50 kg limit by 100 grams. In a recent interview, Sakshi Malik recalled the incident, explaining how strict the United World Wrestling (UWW) regulations are. Malik pointed out that even being 10 grams over the limit results in disqualification, making Vinesh’s situation especially difficult.
Sakshi Malik’s Insight
Sakshi, whose autobiography Witness covers her career achievements and controversies, expressed sympathy for Vinesh, acknowledging how challenging it is to cut even 100 grams in such a short time. "UWW does not allow even 10 grams over the weight limit, and Vinesh was 100 grams over," she stated.
