Sambhal: Tensions rise as Kaila Devi temple priest blocked from entering Shahi Jama Masjid amid historic dispute.

SAMBHAL, India – In a high-voltage incident, Kaila Devi Temple head priest Mahant Rishiraj Giri was Saturday turned back from the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sadar Kotwali area of Sambhal. The Mahant, who had filed a petition claiming that the mosque is originally the historic Harihar Temple, stood in front of the mosque's gate as the security forces maintained order.

The situation turned tense and the city almost became a virtual fortress, as police forces from all district stations were summoned. The district magistrate, Rajendra Pensia, and superintendent of police, Krishna Kumar, personally over-looked the scene.

In its ambient and legal brilliance, this incident highlights the simmering tensions around the disputed site, symbolising both religious and legal conditions for the community at large. The visuals of Mahant standing at the mosque gate symbolise the charged atmosphere gripping the city.
