Sant Kabir Nagar Shock: Bride's Father Shot Youth Over Love Marriage, Admitted in Gorakhpur Medical College
SANT KABIR NAGAR, India – In the Mahuli area of Sant Kabir Nagar, a love marriage turned out to be a nearly fatal war of sorts when the bride's father allegedly shot the groom in a fit of rage over the marriage. The incident was confirmed in Jassovar village, wherein a youth has been critically injured.
Authorities said the groom had recently married a local girl against the wishes of her family. The situation worsened on Monday when the woman's father allegedly fired several shots at the youth. The young man was taken to the district hospital for treatment, but he was referred to Gorakhpur Medical College as his injuries were serious.
Superintendent of Police Satya Jeet Gupta and local MLA Ganesh Chauhan visited the district hospital to gauge the situation and seek information about the victim's condition. Police have also started an inquiry and are processing the complaint of the family, which mentions that the bridegroom's father is the attacker.
The couple had got married a few days ago against the will of the bride's family who belonged to a rigid mould and abhorred marriage outside the line of castes.
It was said that this is a tragic outcome between love marriages and societal as well as familial pressures. Police are dealing with the case with all seriousness, assured by SP Gupta that those involved would have to face stern action. Meanwhile, the bride's father managed to flee.
