Sonbhadra tragedy: Speeding coal truck rams into stationary vehicle, two dead; massive traffic jam on Varanasi-Shaktinagar highway

SONBHADRA, India – Calamity struck the roads of Sonbhadra again when a high-speed coal-laden truck crashed into a stationary truck near the Pipri police station area. The two vehicles collided head-on with another vehicle that met with an accident. The driver and cleaner of the coal-laden truck were trapped inside the cabin for hours before they were rescued. Both of them died in treatment.

The accident occurred on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar highway near Van Mandir, where a stationary Hyva truck was hit by a speeding coal truck. The impact was so severe that another truck following close behind also collided, creating a pile-up.

Emergency services had an arduous job in rescuing the driver and the cleaner from the coal truck which was totally crushed in a collision. Rushed to the hospital with police escort, both the man and the woman died while undergoing treatment.

The collision led to the blockage of the entire Varanasi-Shaktinagar route where hundreds of vehicles were lined up on the road for hours. Police and local administrations made all-out efforts to clear the road for traffic to resume.

Residents blame reckless driving and poor road conditions, including potholes, for the increasing number of fatal accidents in the region. This latest incident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of speed regulations and road repairs to prevent further loss of life.
