Schools and Colleges Closed in Manipur, Know the Reason
The Manipur government has shut all schools, colleges, and universities in Imphal West and Imphal East districts until November 19 due to escalating violence and imposed curfews. The decision, announced by the Higher and Technical Education Department, comes in the wake of recent violent incidents that have reignited tensions in the state.
Manipur Closes Schools And Colleges Amid Violence
Authorities have prioritized the safety of students and staff in the affected regions, citing the need for caution during this volatile period. The closure reflects the government’s efforts to maintain order as they address the underlying causes of the unrest through curfews and law enforcement measures.
Violence Triggers Fresh Curfews
Manipur has faced renewed turmoil with two fresh curfews imposed in Imphal West and Imphal East during the last two days. The education department, in consultation with the Home Department issued the closure order for ensuring safety to the students and teaching staff. All government and government-aided educational institutions within the curfew-bound districts have been ordered to remain closed till further notice.
Triggers of the Violence
It is traced back to a chain of sad incidents, as on 8 November a woman was hacked to death in the Jiribam area. And this is what set off the riot. Then on 11 November, an attack on a CRPF post in Borobekra fueled the flames. But that's not all; through arson and killing incidents within the same region, six people died, and the authorities imposed curfews since it threatened to get out of control.
NIA Assumes Important Cases
National Investigation Agency, NIA took over three key cases with regard to the violence that had marred earlier this month. These involve murder, attacks on security forces, and arson. NIA interference is expected to take out the confusion and accountability for the root cause of the unrest.
Shutting schools over pollution is nothing new, but Manipur's state government has explicitly stated that they are closing all educational institutions in the state because the "situation is not favorable," and the security scenario is not soothing.
