Five Maoists Killed, Two Jawans Injured in Kanker Clash

A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and Naxalites in the dense jungles of Abujhmadh near the Kanker-Narayanpur border in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. The exchange of fire resulted in the deaths of five Maoists, while two jawans sustained injuries.The injured personnel have been airlifted to Raipur for treatment. P Sundarraj, Inspector General of Police Bastar, confirmed that five bodies of the Naxals and a major cache of weapons were found at the site.

 According to reports, the operation started as part of a search operation on Friday night, was still operational, and intermittent gunfire was still being reported in the region. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao appreciated the efforts of security forces while assuring that the government is committed to eliminating Naxalism in Bastar region. While speaking to ANI, Sao said, As assured, the double-engine government is taking decisive steps to make Bastar Naxal-free.

Our security forces are venturing into remote areas and directly confronting Naxals. We are paving the way for development in Bastar by gradually eradicating Naxalism.    It is believed to be a forerunner step toward neutralizing the presence of Naxals in the region.

 Bijapur operation nets three Naxals: In a related development, three Naxals, including a platoon commander with a ransom of ₹8 lakhs on his head, were killed in an encounter in Bijapur district on November 9. This marked the intensified efforts of security forces in dismantling Naxal networks all over Chhattisgarh.

The continuous operation at Kanker and recent successes underline the commitment of the government and security forces towards peace and development in these affected areas. The intense shooting battle along with the seizure of arms hints at a very crucial offensive against Naxalites.
