There has been a train accident early this morning near Nalpur in Kolkata, West Bengal. Four coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Express, which was on its way from Secunderabad to Shalimar, derailed in this accident where many passengers were injured. The railway officials along with the rescue teams reached the spot after getting the information of the accident. The accident took place at approximately 5:45 am on the Howrah-Kharagpur rail line.

The derailment involved one parcel van and had caused quite a ruckus at the spot. Per passengers, the train was cruising at a relatively slow pace when they felt a powerful jolt with luggage from overhead racks tumbled down. The train was halted promptly, and as some passengers stepped out, they were shocked to note that four coaches had derailed.

Rail Officials Reach the Spot

An official stated that all passengers from Train 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Express were rescued safely. A few of the passengers received minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the coaches that derailed were not damaged much. RPF and local police have also reached the spot, and rescue operations are in full swing. Authorities are seeking information from passengers about the incident.

The authorities have confirmed to carry out an investigation on what caused the accident," said another source. "The investigation will determine whether it is a problem that occurred in the tracks, technical, or a human error in the driver's part. The railway is also working on alternative travel arrangements for affected passengers," added the same source.

Train Services Disrupted

The accident has halted the train services on the route of Howrah to Kharagpur. According to an official, till the derailed coaches are restored to the track, diverted trains have already been scheduled on this route. Normal operations will resume shortly.

That incident has raised questions about railway safety and the repeated demand for proper checks not to allow such incidents in the future. The findings of the probe are likely to reveal whether it was due to the shortcomings on the maintenance front or operational mistakes.
