Amid repeated chaos in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, which has been observing its session since earlier this week, violent clashes erupted between political parties on Thursday morning. BJP MLAs clashed with the marshals of the assembly after Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather ordered the eviction of opposition members protesting over a resolution passed regarding Jammu and Kashmir's special status. In retaliation, the Speaker went ahead and adjourned the session for the day.

The disturbance started when BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma censured a resolution passed the previous day in the session. Ittehad-e-Awam Party leader Sheikh Khursheed entered the well of the assembly, waving a banner demanding Articles 370 and 35A be restored. This resulted in a heated response from the BJP members; they stormed the well, snatched the banner from his hand, and tore it to pieces.

Desperate to regain control, Speaker Rahim Rather promised Sharma that his opinions would be taken into account. But when the protest continued unabated, the Speaker warned, "You are not above the law.Don't make me do something I prefer not to do."

The situation still continued to worsen as BJP and Jammu and Kashmir National Conference members continued shouting slogans at each other.

This had been moved by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who argued that "this legislative assembly reaffirms the importance of the special status and constitutional protections that preserve the identity, culture, and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and voices concern over their unilateral removal."
