In response, an Advocate Commission was appointed to investigate the claim, conducting the survey with participation from members of the Muslim side. The situation escalated when protesters opposed the survey, leading to stone pelting and police intervention. Despite the violence, the survey was completed, and the findings will be submitted to the court on November 29.

 Stone Pelting and Police Retaliation

At the mosque, where the survey team, flanked by much heavier police deployment than at previous sites, was to begin work, hundreds of protesters against the survey came out in the streets. The stand-off worsened as protesters began to pelt stones at the survey team and police personnel. The police retaliated by firing tear gas to flush out the protesters and put the situation under control.

Survey Conducted Under Tension

Actually, despite the violence, the Advocate Commission has managed to complete the survey of the mosque. Sambhal District Magistrate Rajender Pensiyia said that whole procedure was videographed and photographed as per court orders. Survey report is likely to be submitted before the court on November 29.

 Police Action, Legal Move

DGP Prashant Kumar reacted to the incident, stating, "A survey is being conducted in Sambhal on the orders of the court. Some anti-social elements have pelted stones. Police and senior officers are present on the spot. The situation is under control, and the police will identify the stone pelters and take appropriate legal action."

Wider Context

The riots underscore the sensitivity surrounding religious debates in India. The accusations against the mosque, coupled with the violent reaction coming from certain quarters, make clear that the atmosphere is very charged when these issues arise. Authorities are on red alert to continue preventing such incidents and keep legal processes running uninterruptedly.

The final report by the Advocate Commission on November 29 is liable to decide the future actions of this controversial case.
