Woman Journalist Munni Saha Mobbed in Dhaka, Accused of 'Making Bangladesh Part of India

In a shocking incident in Dhaka, senior Bangladesh journalist Munni Saha was mobbed and heckled by a group of individuals who accused her of trying to make Bangladesh a part of India. The incident occurred last night in the Kawran Bazar area of Dhaka. An angry mob had surrounded Ms. Saha, who is a former head of news at ATN News. They accused her of spreading misinformation and hurting the nation. They even went to the extent of comparing her acts with that of a student who was killed during anti-reservation protests, which eventually caused political upheaval in Bangladesh.

As the crowd continued shouting accusation at her, Ms Saha kept on saying repeatedly: "This is also my country". She kept very calm amidst the chaotic and tense atmosphere until the presence of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Police reports reveal she had suffered a panic attack due to the aggressive and violent behavior of the mob, and the police officers had then taken her into custody only for her protection, both the health condition and for being a lady journalist.

Munni Saha has been associated with controversial political events in Bangladesh, including the aftermath of the 2009 Bangladesh Rifles mutiny and protests that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After those events, Saha, like other journalists, was charged with crimes against humanity.

The attack by the mob on Ms. Saha indicates the tense political environment in Bangladesh, where growing concerns over the safety of minority Hindus have caught international attention. Recently, violence against Hindus and protests for legal protection have been on the rise in the country. Last week alone, Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested for leading a protest on behalf of the Hindu community. ISKCON has also raised alarms after two more monks were arrested in connection with the protest.

India has expressed her concern regarding the increasing violent attacks and targeting of minorities by Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs has always suggested that the Bangladesh government be able to ensure the minorities' safety, especially by focusing on the increasing violent attacks on the Hindu population. This situation has set up a complex political landscape due to increasing tensions and calls for justice and protection.

This latest incident involving Munni Saha has furthered questions regarding the state of press freedom and political stability in Bangladesh. She has been released by the police, but she now needs to seek bail and comply with future police summons related to the case. The situation continues to develop as the country navigates through these turbulent times.
