Centre Sanctions First-ever All-Women Reserve Battalion for CISF
The Union government cleared the raising of the country's first ever all-women reserve battalion for CISF, a sign growing responsibilities of the force over areas like VVIP security, airport operations, and protection of vital installations.
CISF Gets First All-Women Reserve Battalion
The new battalion would have more than 1,000 women personnel and would be raised from the present manpower of approximately 1.80 lakh personnel. It has issued a formal order Monday, sanctioning the reserve battalion, a force that will have a total strength of 1,025 personnel commanded by a commandant ranked officer.
The women currently form over seven percent of the CISF and this new battalion will be a significant step towards gender inclusiveness in a critical security force. Specialized to Perform Elite Roles Such as: VIP security, Airport Security, and Many Others Infrastructure Security Such as Delhi Metro, etc. The unit upon raise will be the First All Women Reserve Battalion for CISF Making it a landmark in the history of CISF and for women in Security Services.
At present, the CISF maintains 12 reserve battalions, consisting of men and women. The units are kept in reserve and used on reinforcement during important work, such as elections or highly sensitive sites such as the Parliament House. The outfit protects well over 68 civil airports, monuments like the Taj Mahal and Red Fort, besides safeguarding critical sectors such as aerospace and nuclear plant facilities. This initiative falls in the endeavor of CISF to raise its competence and diversify personnel, increasing the number of women staffing the country's most important installations and infrastructure.
