The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given its approval to Entod Pharmaceuticals for the launch of PresVu, the first eye drop in India specifically designed to treat presbyopia. The eye drop, which promises to be a game-changer for those affected by this common age-related condition, received approval from the Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO).

What Is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is a vision condition that typically affects people over 40, making it difficult to focus on close objects. The condition occurs naturally as the eye's ability to focus diminishes with age. According to global estimates, between 1.09 billion and 1.80 billion people suffer from presbyopia, emphasizing the need for effective treatments.

Individuals with presbyopia often find themselves holding objects, like books or smartphones, at arm's length to see clearly. It can have a significant impact on daily activities, but the condition can be easily diagnosed through a routine eye examination.

PresVu: A Breakthrough in Eye Care

Entod Pharmaceuticals has developed PresVu as a non-invasive treatment that aims to reduce the need for reading glasses, which have long been the primary solution for those with presbyopia. Nikkhil K Masurkar, CEO of Entod Pharmaceuticals, shared that PresVu was created after years of extensive research and development. He stated, "Its approval by the DCGI is a major step in our mission to transform eye care in India."

Key Benefits of PresVu

The pharmaceutical company has applied for a patent on the formulation and process of PresVu. In addition to helping patients reduce dependency on reading glasses, the eye drops also offer the benefit of lubricating the eyes.

One of the standout features of PresVu is its use of advanced dynamic buffer technology, which allows it to quickly adapt to the pH of tears, providing long-lasting relief. According to Entod, the effect of the eye drops can enhance near vision within just 15 minutes of application.

Expert Opinions on PresVu

Dr. Aditya Sethi highlighted that presbyopia has traditionally been treated through reading glasses, contact lenses, or surgical procedures. With PresVu, patients now have an effective and non-invasive alternative. "The eye drops improve near vision within minutes, significantly enhancing the quality of life for those affected by presbyopia," Dr. Sethi said.

Additionally, Dr. Dhananjay Bakhle noted that PresVu represents a significant advancement in ophthalmology, offering a promising new treatment option for presbyopia. "This eye drop provides a non-invasive solution for patients, eliminating the need for reading glasses," he stated.

Transforming Eye Care in India

PresVu offers an innovative approach to treating presbyopia, providing millions of people with an alternative to traditional methods. Its ability to enhance vision rapidly and reduce reliance on reading glasses marks a significant advancement in eye care. As the first eye drop of its kind in India, PresVu is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by presbyopia.
