MRI Scan Tragedy: Woman Dies in Andhra Pradesh Due to Medical Negligence

MRI Scan Tragedy: A shocking case of medical negligence has emerged from Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, where a 60-year-old woman, Rama Tulasi, died during an MRI scan at a private scanning center. Despite informing the staff about her pacemaker, she was still subjected to the scan, leading to her painful death inside the MRI machine.

Negligence Led to the Tragic Death

Rama Tulasi, a resident of Patti Kolalanka village, was undergoing dialysis for kidney issues and recently developed heart problems.
Without consulting doctors, she had a pacemaker implanted, which later worsened her health condition.
Due to severe headaches for three days, her family admitted her to a private hospital in Eluru, where doctors recommended an MRI scan to diagnose the issue.

MRI Staff Ignored Pacemaker Warning

Tulasi’s husband, Koteshwar Rao, informed the MRI staff about her pacemaker and kidney issues before the scan.
Despite this, the technicians proceeded with the scan, disregarding the life-threatening risks of MRI exposure to a pacemaker patient.
Within minutes of the scan, Tulasi started shaking and convulsing, but the staff ignored her distress and continued the procedure.
When the technician finally checked on her, she was already dead.

Medical Authorities Take Action Against MRI Center

Following the family’s complaint, health officials inspected the MRI scanning center and found severe lapses in management.
No radiologist or trained MRI technician was present at the facility, raising concerns about the safety protocols followed.
Local residents and Tulasi’s relatives are demanding strict action against the center for its gross negligence.

Why MRI is Dangerous for Pacemaker Patients?

MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields, which can interfere with pacemakers, causing malfunctions, severe injuries, or even death.
Medical professionals must verify whether a patient has MRI-compatible pacemakers before proceeding with the scan.

This tragic incident highlights serious medical negligence and the urgent need for stricter regulations at scanning centers. Proper medical protocols, trained staff, and thorough patient history checks are essential to prevent such avoidable deaths in the future. Authorities must take swift action to ensure patient safety and hold the responsible parties accountable.
